Diaper Bag Essentials From Amazon

Are you wondering how to pack the perfect diaper bag? or what are the absolute MUST-HAVE diaper bag essentials from a mom with experience? I felt the same way!

After a lot of research and conversations with moms I trusted, I developed a list of essential items that I ALWAYS have in my diaper bag. Since your diaper bag is a little piece of home for your baby that you will take with you when you are away, it is so important to have the right items with you while you are out. This will help you feel confident and prepared!

Before you can pack the perfect diaper bag, you will need to get one!  There are so many great options, but I suggest looking to find something that fits your style and needs.  You will be carrying it around A LOT!  This Skip Hop Messenger Diaper bag is a great starting place.  It is stylish, versatile, has tons of storage and pockets, and stroller straps so that you can easily clip it on your stroller while you are out, which is SO nice!

Here are my suggestions for what to include:

Diapers and clothing

1. Diapers: I always have 3-4 diapers in our diaper bag. I love Huggies diapers! If you have a Costco membership, we routinely get the Huggies Plus diapers from Costco. Highly recommended!

2. Wipes: I usually keep 1 pack of wipes in our diaper bag at any given time. These Huggies Natural Care wipes are great. No harsh chemicals, hypoallergenic, fragrance free, paraben free, and enriched with aloe and Vitamin E.

3. Changing clutch: This JJ Cole Diaper Changing clutch is a great item to stick in your diaper bag for when you are out or traveling.  So nice to have a clean, familiar surface to lay your baby down on to change their diaper, and it is stylish too!

4. Extra clothes: If there is a mess or spill, it is always helpful to have an extra set of clothes for your little one.  I recommend something comfortable, like these onesies and pants from Burt’s Bees.

5. Waterproof Reusable bags: These ALVABABY wet/dry bags are great for soiled clothes that you may experience while you are on the road!

6. Stain removal pen: In the case of a mess or spill, it is helpful to have one of these Dreft stain removal pens!

7. Disinfecting wipes: Depending on the mess, you want to sanitize the surfaces affected.  These Lysol disinfecting wipes are perfect and easy to put in the diaper bag!

Sleep

8. Blanket: We always bring some type of blanket while we are out.  These swaddle blankets are versatile, light-weight, and easy to carry in your diaper bag and also provide great coverage and warmth to your little one.

9. Pacifiers: We always had two pacifiers in our diaper bag just in case one fell on the floor.  Our baby LOVED this pacifier, and it was really helpful for soothing at naps and bedtime!  The stuffed toy is great for the baby to hold on and keep the pacifier in their mouth.

10. Pacifier wipes: You never know when a pacifier or bottle will fall on the floor, so these are really helpful to have on hand!

Feeding

11. Bottles: Depending on your situation, it may help to take a bottle with you when you are going out for your baby’s feedings.  These were the first bottles that we used for our baby and they worked really well.  They are designed to reduce colic and gas, and they are BPA free. They are perfect for the first few months when your baby needs 4oz or less per feeding. When our little one got bigger, we transitioned to these bottles, because they hold a larger volume and fit directly on the Spectra breast pump (so you can literally pump and feed your baby with no transfer). These are also engineered with an anti-colic system and worked perfectly for us.

12. Bibs: These are helpful to have in the diaper bag whether you are planning to feed your little one or they are teething and drooling.  These bibs are 100% organic cotton, and the best part is that they simply slide over your child’s head and are Velcro and snap free!

13. Burp cloths: We usually have 1-2 burp cloths in our diaper bag.  These are made from 100% organic cotton and are great for sensitive skin.

14. Car seat cover/nursing cover: An absolutely genius idea that can be used so many different ways!  It’s a car seat cover, stroller cover, shopping cart cover, and breastfeeding cover all-in-one.  Best of all, it’s 95% organic cotton, BPA free, latex free, lead free, and phthalate free, so it is super safe for you and baby!

15. Disposable placemats: Once your baby starts eating solid food, these are a must when you go out to eat! They have sticky strips that attach to the table, and they are BPA, PVC, phthalate, and lead free.

Health and Safety

16. First aid kit: I keep a first aid kit in our diaper bag and in our car glove compartment in case of emergencies.  It includes kid-friendly bandages, antibiotic cream, safety pins and more.

Toys

17. Dimpl Toy: I love this toy, because it keeps your little one entertained, and it is quiet.  I always have this in the diaper bag!

18. Books: I always carry books in our diaper bag to entertain our little one. This book was a big hit with our baby when she was little.  It has high-contrast black and white pictures with red typed words, perfect to stimulate your little ones eyes!

19. Taggies Crinkle Paper: I usually have this type of toy in my diaper bag too, and we use it if noise is not an issue.  Babies love the crinkling sound these toys make, and they enjoy engaging with the colors and tags attached around the perimeter.

Parent Items

20. I always added a water bottle (I used these while I was breastfeeding to make sure I was getting enough water, a granola bar, hair tie, and extra shirt for myself in our diaper bag!  Remember to take care of yourself, mama!
