Nursery & Décor

1. Bassinet: The first important item you will need for your baby is a nice place for them to sleep.  This bassinet comes up on nearly every “Best Bassinet” search and was created specifically to create a safe sleep environment to prevent SIDS.

2. Crib: This simple, stylish crib has some amazing features!  It grows with your child converting from a crib (with 4 adjustable mattress heights) to a toddler bed (with a partial railing) to a daybed. These cribs are also Greenguard certified, painted with non-toxic paint, and are lead and phthalate safe.

3. Crib Mattress: This crib mattress has it all – certified organic, non-toxic, easy to clean, and 2-Stage firmness (one side for infant and one side for toddler).

4. Mattress Pad: A perfect choice for a mattress pad!  Made with a non-irritating, natural material (bamboo) this mattress pad is anti-bacterial, hypoallergenic, waterproof, and noiseless (not made of plastic) making it an excellent choice. I suggest getting two, so you can cycle between the crib and the wash!

5. Crib Sheets: These sheets are SUPER cute and soft, and the best part is that they are made from 100% organic cotton. We try to buy 100% cotton for our little one, since she has sensitive skin, so these are an awesome find!

6. Changing Pad & Cover

Changing pad: This changing pad is easy to clean and 100% waterproof.  That’s all you need!

Changing pad covers: These are great quality, soft changing pad covers!  Love that they are 100% organic cotton too, so that your baby’s skin will be protected! Make sure to have a couple of them, as you can potentially dirty more than one per day.

7. Sound Machine: We swear by this device and even bring it with us when we travel!  We had this item purchased for us off our registry and started using it with our little one from Day 1.  Buy it!

8. Baby Sized Hangers: You will definitely have some outfits for your little one that you want to hang rather than fold.  These are natural and chemical free and a good option.

9. Dresser/Changing Table: An idea to consider in your nursery is using a dresser like this one as your changing table while your little one is in diapers. Changing tables will only be need for about 2 years, and a dresser will be useful for many years to come!

10. Hamper: Babies = a ton of laundry, and a nice laundry basket will be a great investment, trust me.  I have not regretted splurging a little and buying a fashionable laundry basket for our little one’s room.

11. Glider & Ottoman

Glider: A priority for me was to find a nursery glider that was both very comfortable, but could also be used in our master bedroom or another room of the house once our little one grew out of the baby phase.  This glider successfully fulfilled those desires. We have spent many hours in this glider over the past two years, and we love it!

Ottoman: The glider is of course a million times better if you can prop your feet up!  I highly recommend getting this ottoman to pair with the glider if at all possible.  I have never regretted an ottoman purchase.

12. Black out curtains: Anything you can do to help your little one sleep during the day is a must buy! We have blackout curtains in all the bedrooms in our home, and they truly make a big difference.

13. Diaper pail: Particularly during the first year, it is really nice to have a diaper pail in your nursery since you will be changing SO many diapers.  The Ubbi is a great choice for two reasons.  First, unlike many diaper pails, you don’t need to buy special bags for this pail you can simply use trash bags.  Second, it is made with non-porous steal, which unlike plastic, locks out odor.

14. Baskets: With all the baby items you accumulate, you will want to purchase some organizing and storage items for your nursery like these neutral-colored, 100% cotton rope baskets! They are sturdy, washable, and soft, and a great option to get your nursery started.

15. Closet organizer: Organization is a huge help to new parents!  This hanging shelf closet organizer can help you make the most of your closet space.

16. Closet Dividers: During the first 2 years of you baby’s life, they will grow so fast!  These size dividers for their closet will help keep their clothes organized by age/size.  Since these are gender neutral, you can use these with multiple kids!

17. Bookshelf: These bookshelves are awesome for your nursery!  We have one, and it is great because your little one can both access their books and put them away by themselves.  Sturdy and easy to assemble too!

Travel

18. Car Seat/Stroller Travel System: This car seat and stroller combination is consistently a top pick! It’s best features are top-rated safety ratings and its one-handed quick folding technology. We have used our stroller multiple times a day for two years and it still is in great shape!  Highly recommend!

19. Car Seat Cover: An absolutely genius idea that can be used so many different ways!  It’s a car seat cover, stroller cover, shopping cart cover, and breastfeeding cover all-in-one.  Best of all, it’s 95% organic cotton, BPA free, latex free, lead free, and phthalate free, so it is super safe for you and baby!

20. Convertible Car seat: Among the safest convertible car seats you can find  with the same great quality from Chicco.  We bought this for our little one, and so far so good!

21. Playard/Travel Crib: Since we had to travel a lot during the first year of our baby’s life, we decided to splurge for a nicer playard as she would use that as a travel crib on the road. This playard has some awesome features – SUPER soft cushion on the bottom, side zipper for easy transfer of your sleeping baby, and when not in use the playard easily folds into a carrying case that doubles as a backpack. It’s also certified safe and non-toxic!

22. Stroller Parent Console: This is truly helpful!  Such a nice way to keep your items organized and not just stuffed under the stroller!

23. Mommy Hook: So helpful if you go shopping alone with your baby!  We have a grocery store in walking distance from our home, I have used this countless times to carry groceries back home.  Simple but helpful!

24. Britax Car Mirror: Want to make driving with your little one easier?  Get one of these mirrors for your backseat so that you can see a reflection of your child at all times while you are driving.  The mirror is easy to install and shatter-proof!

25. Changing clutch: This is a great item to get and stick in your diaper bag for when you are out or traveling.  So nice to have a clean, familiar surface to lay your baby down on to change their diaper, and it is stylish too!

26. Kid’s Luggage: This suitcase (the Trunki) for little ones allows them to ride on the back of it allowing you to tow your little one and their luggage at the same time.  Kids love it!

27. Waterproof reusable bags: These are great for soiled clothes that you may experience while you are on the road!

Baby Gear

28. Jumper: We got this exact jumper through our baby registry, and our baby LOVED it and LIVED in it! Very sturdy and great quality!

29. Play Gym: An activity mat is a great activity for your baby particularly before they start crawling.  Most activity mats are short lived as your baby will be mobile, but this has a cool feature of turning into a play fort – making this product able to last longer and grow with your child – win!

30. Bouncer: When you baby is little, you will need to put them down from time to time in places you will know they will be safe.  This bouncer is perfect for that, and it even has calming vibrations and is machine washable.

31. Baby Carrier: We loved this baby carrier that both my husband and I could wear and have our hands free! It is built specifically with lumbar support for extra back comfort that will be helpful as your baby gets heavier.

32. Swing: This swing was a life saver for our family! We went through a few months were this was the only way I could get our little one down for a nap during the day.  100% recommend!

33. Diaper Bag: You will need a diaper bag for when you go out with your baby. These bags are great with fashionable designs and also featuring nonslip stroller straps, which are so helpful! Need help figuring out how to pack the perfect diaper bag? Read more here!

34. Dishwasher basket: You will have a lot of bottle parts, pacifiers, and baby gear to wash, and the dishwasher can be a great option.  We tried a number of different dishwasher baskets, and this one was by far the best and was very sturdy!

35. Cordless Vacuum Cleaner: Babies and toddlers will definitely add to the messes around your home.  This vacuum has been one of our favorite gifts we got for our baby.  It is cordless, so you don’t have to worry about the cords with your baby around, and it has a detachable dustbuster that you can use for the carseat or highchair. I use ours at least twice per day!

36. Extra phone battery charger: It is helpful to know while you are out with your little one, that you have access to emergency help through your phone.  This device is a portable charger that is awesome to have as a back-up to make sure that your phone is always charged and available!

Bath

37. Bathtub: We used this bathtub for our baby. It’s simple but sturdy and works great!  It also has different configurations to best support your baby as they grow, which is a nice feature.

38. Kneeler Pad: You will be spending a lot of time kneeling at the bathtub giving your baby and toddler baths. This kneeler pad is great, because it has built in storage bags for bath toys and is machine washable. Add this to your registry or splurge on this for yourself, and you will not be sorry!

39. Rinser bath cup: This item is cheap, but so helpful during bathtime! The cup fits to your child’s head, so that you do not pour water on their face and eyes while you wash their hair, and it can make bathtime much more pleasant and fun! Your little one will probably LOVE to play with this too in the tub!

40. Bath spout cover: This product can protect your little one from injuries in the bathtub.  A nice feature of this one is that it is BPA-free, PVC-free, and Phthalate-free, as well as mold and mildew resistant.

41. Shampoo and Conditioner: We love this shampoo and conditioner from the Honest Company. It is tear-free and is made without parabens, dyes, phthalates, and synthetic fragrances.

42. Washcloths: Perfect, simple washcloths that are made from 100% organic cotton are exactly what you need for bath time.

Nursing & Feeding

43. Breast pump: This is a must-buy for those planning to feed your baby with breast milk. Having extra milk stored away can be so helpful! This is the pump that I purchased.  It was great because it has a rechargeable battery, which will allow you to pump cord-free anywhere

44. Extra breast pump parts: Depending on how much you pump, I highly recommend getting extra flanges and valves.  Once you pump they will have milk in them and you will need to clean them.  I purchased about 4 of each item and then at the end of the day put everything in the dishwasher to sanitize.  Worked great for me!  You can also keep pump parts for at least a few hours in the fridge too without washing them!

45. Milk Storage bags: Once you pump, you will need to store/freeze your milk.  These bags are really great with a self-standing design for pouring and measurements on the side.  I recommend freezing pumped milk in the exact amount that your baby will use for their bottle, not the quantity you pumped.  This way you will have less waste as you will not want to free/thaw the milk numerous times.

46. Bottles

Small Bottles: These were the first bottles that we used for our baby and they worked really well.  They are designed to reduce colic and gas, and they are BPA free. They are perfect for the first few months when your baby needs 4oz or less per feeding.

Larger Bottles: We transitioned to these bottles, because they hold a larger volume and fit directly on the Spectra breast pump (so you can literally pump and feed your baby with no transfer). These are also engineered with an anti-colic system and worked perfectly for us.

47. Baby Scale: This is a product that you will rarely see on a baby registry list, but honestly was one of the most useful pieces of baby equipment we had during the first few months with our baby. If you are breastfeeding it is impossible to know how much your baby is eating and if they are progressing properly until you weigh in at their doctor’s appointments.  Having this will allow you to weigh them more frequently and make adjustments sooner – relieving a lot of stress and anticipation.

48. Insulated Cooler: If you are working and pumping or need to take bottles with you while you are traveling, an insulated cooler is a must.  This one specifically is designed to carry bottles, so they fit perfectly!

49. Bottle Brush: This is an essential piece for washing bottles and pump parts.  This bottle brush has a stand, which is wonderful!

50. Drying rack: Absolutely genius, space-saving drying rack for bottle and pump parts after you wash them.  Anything that can save space with all the baby items will be so valuable to you!

51. Boppy nursing pillow: I personally used this pillow to nurse my baby, and it was very helpful. It can also be used to prop up the baby or facilitate tummy time. Highly recommend!

52. Boppy Water-Resistant Protective Cover: During feedings there are sometimes messes and your child might spit up, having this water-resistant cover for your Boppy will ensure the pillow is not soiled during an accident.

53. Burp Cloths: For all the little messes, these burp cloths are great!  They are made from 100% organic cotton and are great for sensitive skin. Have plenty of these on hand!

54. High Chair: Babies can start eating solid food starting around 6 months, so planning ahead and having a highchair handy is a great idea as the first few months will be a blur!  This highchair’s best feature is that it grows with your child! It starts as a traditional highchair than transitions into a booster seat, and then a toddler chair. Love this great design and minimizing additional purchases!

55. Bibs: Stock up on these bibs once you start feeding your baby solid food.  They are 100% organic cotton, and the best part is that they simply side over your child’s head and are Velcro and snap free!

56. Spoons: These spoons are super cheap, and absolutely perfect for your baby’s first solid food.  They are designed to turn white when the food you are stirring if too hot for your baby, so you will always know if your baby’s food is the right temperature.  They are soft on your baby’s gums, and dishwasher safe.

57. Microwave bottle sterilizer: We used a microwave sterilizer to sterilize our baby’s bottles and breast pump parts when our baby was really young.  This item eliminates 99.9% of harmful bacteria in just 2 minutes! Very helpful.

Health & Safety

58. Baby Monitor: An award winning monitor to view your baby while they are sleeping.  This monitor is not connected to wifi for additional security for your family. Additional cameras can be easily added to view multiple children on the same device.

59. Owlet Baby monitor: This monitor will give you maximal piece of mind!  It includes a monitor that your baby wears to measure their heart rate and oxygen levels.  You will be alerted if their levels are suboptimal via an app on your phone. Can use up to 18 months!

60. Smart Thermometer: This is the next generation of thermometers!  It works with an app on your phone to give you a digital readout of your child’s temperature, and it keeps a log with the date and time of all their temperatures that you take using the device. Absolutely invaluable!

61. Nasal aspirator: Clearly seems gross, but definitely worth getting.  We were gifted this as part of our registry, and it was helpful to relieve congestion in our baby. Truly works!

62. Nail clippers: These were the nail clippers that were recommended to us by another mom, and we have been using them from the beginning.  They work great for little hands!

63. Brush and comb: Beautiful brushes and combs from OCCObaby.  This kit comes with a soft brush that is perfect for newborn and infant hair as well as a regular brush for when they are a little older.  Great quality products!

64. Baby Laundry Detergent: Hypoallergenic detergent to wash your newborns clothes in.  This is the #1 pediatrician recommended brand.

65. First Aid Kit: I keep a first aid kit in our diaper bag and in our car glove compartment in case of emergencies.  It includes kid-friendly bandages, antibiotic cream, safety pins and more.

66. Shopping Cart Cover/Restaurant High Chair Cover: This is a product I swear by!  We use it every time we go grocery shopping or out to eat to provide a barrier between our little one and germs on surfaces.  It works great and is machine washable if your little one makes a mess while you are out to eat!  Highly recommend!

67. Plug protectors: These are a must once your little one is mobile.  Easy to put in and take out!

68. Cabinet locks: Very useful for kitchen cabinets and drawers around the house once your baby is mobile. We have a countless magnetized locks around our house, and they work well!

Newborn Essentials

69. Bodysuits: These are perfect – super soft, durable, and gender neutral.  They are also made from 100% organic cotton, which is great for sensitive skin.

70. Pants: Versatile, gender neutral pants that are great for lounging.  They are made from soft 100% cotton and are durable for endless washes.

71. Footed Pajamas: Our baby would always kick off its socks at night, so footed pajamas were in heavy use in our house to keep them warm.  We tried a lot of brands, and these are among the best quality you can find.  Really durable, 100% cotton, and they come in so many cute prints!

72. Swaddle blankets: Swaddles can be really helpful getting young babies to fall asleep.  There are ENDLESS swaddle options on the market.  We found the Velcro ones were a little noisy and disruptive at night, and out of all the ones we tried these worked the best.  They are just the right shape and the right amount of stretchiness to work great each time.

73. Diapers: We love Huggies diapers! We tried them all, and these are what we landed on.  If you have a Costco membership, we routinely got the Huggies Plus diapers from Costco. Highly recommend!

74. Wipes: These wipes are great.  No harsh chemicals, hypoallergenic, fragrance free, paraben free, and enriched with aloe and Vitamin E. I also used this wipes container, which was so helpful in keeping the wipes moist!

75. Pacifier: Our baby LOVED this pacifier, and it was really helpful for soothing at naps and bedtime!  The stuffed toy is great for the baby to hold on and keep the pacifier in their mouth, and it definitely makes finding the pacifier easier around the house! Don’t forget about pacifier clips too. They will keep your baby’s pacifier so much cleaner!

76. Baby Memory Book: Keeping a book of memories during the first year will be such a treasure for your little one some day.  We were gifted this Keepsake book when we found out we were expecting, and it is perfect for documenting milestones and memories as the first year goes by!

Toys & Learning

77. Sophie the Giraffe: So many babies love this teether toy that has so many different textures and chewable parts (ears, horns, legs).

78. Rattle: This rattle has won multiple newborn toy awards, and can also serve as a teething toy.  It is also BPA free!

79. Board books: This book was a big hit with our baby when she was little.  It has high-contrast black and white pictures with red typed words, perfect to stimulate the littles of eyes!

80. Taggies Crinkle Paper: Babies love these toys that make a crinkling sound when they hold and move them. They also enjoy engaging with the colors and tags attached around the perimeter.  Easy to bring with you in the diaper bag or hook onto your stroller. Definitely a big hit with our little one!

There you have it!  I hope this is helpful!  Thanks for reading!
